From Seeds to Sunflowers We planted seeds on April 17th and it took a while but the rainy weekend meant we returned to find signs of life!! We measured and drew our new plants. We even saw how the leaves push the seed casing up on itself as it grows out of the dirt! How cool! And they were very very wet from all that rain. Not all have sprouted but it was fun to see. We had to plant some fast growers into the ground as their dixie cups were disintegrating from all the rain.

Read Across America Day 2017-2018 Kids dress as a character from a book they read to preschool age children. Books were donated through funds via the FEA/NEA's Read Across America as part of this year's theme "Celebrating a Nation of Diverse Readers"
We read The Quilt Story (Tony Johnston) and All the Way to America (Dan Yaccarino) and examined how familiar objects can be treasured by a family because of what the item represents, not just because of what it may cost. We interviewed our family members to find out about family heirlooms or similar items that mean a lot to our family as well. We watched the video above to find out about the author of All the Way to America and how he chose to write about his family through the story of a small shovel.
